August 15 …

Utah to Lander to the trail.

Today we got up, packed, etc and were on the road by 8:00.

Ended up on I-84 for the first time due to accidents blocking I-80.

Paralleled the California, Oregon & Mormon trails for a while which was neat.

We got to Big Sandy Lodge and dropped off our resupply, then went to Lander and then Arapahoe to drop off our car.

Then we were kindly shuttled to the South Pass City/28 junction and started on the trail at 7:30 pm.

We got to 1733.4 as the sun started setting and had our tent up by 8:10 when the rain started.

Tomorrow should be a wonderful day.

Rachel’s D&D Module.

Our daughter’s D&D module was released today.

Internet/cell service was very, very sparse. I was lucky and got to congratulate her.

Not sure when we will have service so I’ve not labeled this post much.

Friday, August 16

It really rained a lot. Three times it stirred with rain and lightning.

Then it was morning. A beautiful day and we started hiking. 9.75 miles by 10:00 and 14 miles by our noon break. Then a siesta.

I was doing well.

Then I “gassed” (ran out of energy) and had shin splints. Suddenly not good to go more today or tomorrow.

At Sweetwater Guard Station Campground there was trail magic and we contacted Wild Bill about a shuttle. he maintains this campground and shuttles out of Atlantic City.

He said yes. Quoted us a price. We were picked up and paid cash.

I’m off trail for the year. Next year for the last 700-800 miles.
