The 2022 survey is out

A couple other excerpts and comments and links. I’ll note White Pass has nothing for resupply, even the hiker box was pretty much empty. Before they changed the end location of where you needed a bear cannister, you could drop off a rented bear cannister and avoid any mailing cost. It was cheaper to rent than to mail one to the trail and back. That is no longer the case.

Quote:

Suggest Mailing Resupply

  1. Stehekin (Washington) 71%
  2. Kennedy Meadows (South)* (Sierra) 37%
  3. White Pass (Washington) 35%
  4. Snoqualmie Pass (Washington) 33%
  5. Stevens Pass/Skykomish (Washington) 29%
  6. Crater Lake National Park (Oregon) 28%
  7. Acton KOA (Desert) 27%
  8. Sierra City (Northern California) 25%
  9. Shelter Cove Resort (Oregon) 22%
  10. Warner Springs (Desert) 16%

*Kennedy Meadows (South) is where most hikers begin carrying bear canisters. The most popular bear canister from this year? (And every year.) The BV500. I’m a fan of the BV450, but more on that in the gear guide.

The 2022 guide will be out shortly. It lags behind the survey as he has to digest, format and print the results. I found it interesting and useful, with the usual caveats.

Also, check several years in a row. The results tend to fluctuate, sometimes dramatically.
