PRAYER

Introduction

The purpose of these lessons is to help you remember to worship God, to come unto Christ, to be born again, and to be converted to the Lord.

See Helaman 15:7-8

Read the following scripture and underline the important words.

Wherefore, let us be faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; therefore let us go down to the land of our father's inheritance, for behold, he left gold and silver, and all manner of riches. And all this he hath done because of the commandments of the Lord.

1 Nephi 2:16

Read Enos 1:1-8, 15. From the following portion of that scripture underline the important words.

And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.

Wherefore, I knowing that the Lord God was able to preserve our records, I cried unto him continually, for he had said unto me: Whatsoever thing ye shall ask in faith, believing that ye shall receive in the name of Christ, ye shall receive it.

Enos 1:8, 15

Read the following scripture and underline the important words.

And they said: Behold, we cannot understand the words which our father hath spoken concerning the natural branches of the olive-tree, and also concerning the Gentiles.

And I said unto them: Have ye inquired of the Lord?

And they said unto me: We have not; for the Lord maketh no such thing known unto us.

Behold, I said unto them: How is it that ye do not keep the commandments of the Lord? How is it that ye will perish, because of the hardness of your hearts?

Do you not remember the things which the Lord hath said? -- If ye will not harden your hearts, and ask me in faith, believing that ye shall receive, with diligence in keeping my commandments, surely these things shall be made known unto you.

1 Nephi 15:7-11

Read the following scripture and underline the important words.

And it came to pass that after Aaron had expounded these things unto him, the king said: What shall I do that I may have this eternal life of which thou has spoken? Yea, what shall I do that I may be born of God, having this wicked spirit rooted out of my breast, and receive his Spirit, that I may be filled with joy, that I may not be cast off at the last day? Behold, said he, I will give up all that I possess, year I will forsake my kingdom that I may receive this great joy.

But Aaron said unto him: If thou desirest this thing, if thou wilt bow down before God, yea, if thou wilt repent of all thy sins, and will bow down before God, and call on his name in faith, believing that ye shall receive, then shalt thou receive the hope which thou desirest.

CONCLUSIONS ON PRAYER

(From the lesson outline)

A. We should kneel, whenever possible, humbling ourselves, in sincerity of heart, believing we shall receive, always praying to the Father in the name of Christ.

B. We must pray in the morning, at noon, in the evening, in all places, having a prayer in our hearts at all times.

C. We must pray to be led by the Lord by revelation and his Spirit, which brings forgiveness of sins, peace, hope, faith, and so forth, and thus not be misled by the devil and his doctrines into captivity.

D. We should pray for all things which we stand in need of, letting our hearts be drawn out in gratitude to the Lord at all times.

E. We should kneel with our spouse and children in family prayer at least every morning and evening. We will thereby invite the Spirit into our homes, receive answers to our prayers, and assist our children in their conversion to the Lord.
