The American University Mediation Center

Internship and Training Program (Proposed explanation materials that I drafted for them).

What Mediation Is:

Mediation is ...

How Participating in the Center Benefits Teachers, Counselors, H.R. Professionals and Pre-Law Students:

Mediation is a job skill that is becoming more and more important in several professional fields. However, it is not only having forty class room hours of training or a degree that matters -- it is having real, hands-on, live experience that matters.  By participating in the Center you can obtain the real experience that is so important to a successful carreer and so necessary for a successful resume.  If you stay with the Center you can also have the opportunity to teach mediation skills to others and to participate in seminars.

How Our Program Works:
  1. Training.  We provide both basic initial training and follow-up skills and advanced training in mediation and dispute resolution.
  2. Practicum.  We provide a practicum of real conflicts to mediate over the course of a semester.
  3. Volunteer Internships.  Those who successfully complete a practicum are able to apply for volunteer mediation internships on-campus.
  4. Advanced Topics and Seminars.  The Center also provides advanced training and teaching opportunities to those who successfully complete internships.
