How to install Refer Me
=======================

1. Open refer.pl in your plain text editor 
and edit the options at the top of the script.

2. Find the referral message, about halfway down 
refer.pl and change it to suit yourself. If you 
want to leave it as it is, that's fine by me!

3. Open refer-me.htm in your HTML or plain text 
editor and edit the FORM ACTION to match the path 
where you intend to place refer.pl

4. If you want to put the referral form on your own 
page, copy the code that I've marked and paste it 
into your own Web page.

5. If you've added the form to your own page (see 
point 4), upload it to your server. Otherwise, upload
refer-me.htm and refer-me.gif to a directory of your choice.

6. Upload refer.pl to the cgi-bin directory on your server.

7. **VERY IMPORTANT** - change the file attributes of 
refer.pl to make it executable using the chmod command.
It should show as rwxr-xr-x
 
If you have CuteFTP you can do this like so: 
select refer.pl on your server and do Commands... change file
attributes and check 'Read All', 'Execute All' and write owner only.
 
Or, in other programs, the direct Unix command is: chmod 755 refer.pl
Or:
chmod +x refer.pl
 

8. Watch your traffic skyrocket!
